SHARJAH, 6th August 2017 (WAM) - In the presence of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council; Dr Khalid Omar Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Media City (Shams) met with Marwan Bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), at the interim premises of Shams.

The meeting was an occasion to review several issues relevant to the latest developments in Shams and future development plans. It also discussed potential opportunities for cooperation between Shams and Shurooq to ensure recruitment of the best-in-class talents and investors in areas of media and related fields.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the Government of Sharjah to promote media investments in the emirate in line with the vision of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. These efforts serve to ensure the wellbeing of citizens and residents alike and provide an environment that enables the proliferation of knowledge and culture.

He underscored the significant role played by Shams in attracting leading media institutions, talents, and entrepreneurs to work in the Emirate of Sharjah and utilise the lucrative and promising business opportunities created by the city in different sectors.

Dr Khalid Omar Al Midfa noted that Shams serves as a role model for free media zones: "Shams, which was established under a decree by HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, offers a new dimension to Sharjah’s already diverse offering in terms of media, entrepreneurship, industry knowledge, culture and investment."

He added, "Shams represents an integrated city where the diverse needs of those working in the media and investment sectors are met and allow them to thrive. In addition, Shams is an environment that is conducive to investment, the hallmarks of which are excellence, creativity and innovation."

"Shams is an evolution of the traditional concept of free zones, providing around-the-clock integrated services via smart systems that streamline business for individuals and organisations alike. It is based on the modern concepts of efficiency, affordability, optimised performance and civilised discourse."

"While endeavouring to ensure Sharjah’s regional leadership in the fields of education, media and creative training, Shams consistently seeks to establish an attractive environment for those operating in global media and investment industries."

He pointed out that the ongoing collaboration with Shurooq is a significant steppingstone on the path toward achieving Shams’ vision to create such a transformational transition from the traditional concept of free zones to a sophisticated model providing around-the-clock integrated services via smart systems that streamline business for individuals and organisations alike, based on the modern concepts of speed, affordability, optimised performance and civilised conduct."

He expressed Shams’ pride of its partnership with Shurooq as it ensures an optimal exchange of knowledge and expertise with the shared objective of advancing the global cultural position of the Emirate of Sharjah and enhancing its competitive edge in areas of media and knowledge dissemination.

Marwan Bin Jassim Al Sarkal commented, "We are determined to further develop our partnership with Shams, providing our knowledge and expertise in order to help Sharjah transform its vision into reality. This is central to our commitment towards all government entities and institutions operating in the emirate."

He expressed his delight over the successful initiatives launched by Shams in areas of media investment, affirming that such constructive endeavours "reflect the vibrant nature of the investment environment provided by Shams and its ability to draw investments from across the globe as investors typically seek safe and attractive havens that provide diverse services and facilities-potential which are available in Sharjah."

Shams is founded on affordability, optimisation, and efficiency. It represents an evolution of the traditional concept of free zones to provide integrated services via smart systems and an attractive environment for those operating in the global media and investment industries. As a result, it has forged constructive partnerships with all its stakeholders, striving for the ultimate objective of overall excellence and success.
