South Korea has detected avian influenza infection in a dead wild bird body, the farm and livestock ministry said Friday.
In a preliminary test result, the ministry said that a H5-type AI virus was detected from the dead bird retrieved in Seogwipo, the southern area of the country's resort island of Jeju, on Tuesday.
It will still take three to five days before determining whether the virus is highly pathogenic or not, the ministry said.
As precaution measures, the ministry said that it will restrict movement of poultry and other livestock for 21 days within a 10 kilometer-radius of the area where the wild bird was discovered. (Yonhap News)
