ABU DHABI, 5th July, 2018 (WAM) -- The Arab Monetary Fund, AMF, has held, at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, the annual meeting of the Permanent Office of the Council of Governors of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Agencies, to prepare for the upcoming 42nd session of the council.
The meeting was headed by Abdel Aziz Ould Dahi, Governor of the Mauritanian Central Bank and Chairman of the Current Session of the Council, and was attended by Mubarak Rashed Al Mansouri, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE, and Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al Hamidi, Director-General and Chairman of the AMF.
The meeting’s agenda included a report by the council’s secretariat that was presented by Al Hamidi, as well as a several topics included in a report by the Arab Committee on Banking Supervision, ACBS, two reports about the work of regional teams responsible for promoting financial inclusion and financial stability in the Arab region, a report on the work of the Arab Committee on Credit Information, and another report on the work of the Arab Committee for Payment and Settlement Systems.
The office approved a draft speech on issues that were recommended for inclusion in a unified Arab speech for 2018 that will be given by the Arab Group in the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which will be held in October in Bali, Indonesia.
The office welcomed the progress of a regional initiative that was launched by the AMF to promote financial inclusion in Arab countries, in cooperation with the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, the German Development Agency and the World Bank while adding that the goal of the initiative is to support Arab countries in adopting national strategies and programmes that will promote financial inclusion, especially through enabling women, the youth and micro, small and medium-sized projects to access financial services and benefit from modern technologies and relevant international expertise.
The office also approved the time and place of the 42nd annual meeting of the council, which will be held on 17th September in Jordan.
