BACOLOD CITY, Jan 24 (PNA) – City officials here are pushing to make Bacolod as the choice destination for national and international meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions or MICE.
Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue filed an ordinance, co-authored by Councilors Sonya Verdeflor and Carlos Jose Lopez Jr., calling to promote and strengthen the chances of Bacolod as choice MICE destination.
Sigue said that MICE tourism can bring various benefits to the city.
This can boost the economy, provide short-term jobs, and serve as a setting where both host and guests can engage in ideas that will further entice progress and innovation, she added.
Sigue pointed out that MICE event locations are normally bid on by specialized convention bureaus or those countries and cities established for the purpose of bidding MICE activities.
The process of marketing and bidding is normally conducted well in advance of a certain event and it can even take several years before it can be approved, she added.
Sigue also said that convention bureaus may offer financial subsidies to attract MICE events to their city, adding that MICE tourism is known for its extensive planning and demanding clientele.
Moreover, the proposed ordinance stated that Bacolod has a recognized potential as a MICE industry location of the country and places a premium on the continuing collaboration of the private and public sector to achieve the goal.(PNA)
