AL AIN, 7th November, 2018 (WAM) -- Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, inaugurated the 10th annual fair ‘My Environment, My National Responsibility’, coinciding with the Conservation Festival, organised by the Zoo and Aquarium Public Institution in Al Ain.
Set to run till November 9 at the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre in Al Ain, the three-day event is expected to attract 2,000 visitors, mostly families and schoolchildren.
Participating entities include the Ministry of Energy and Industry, the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, Dubai Municipality, Fujairah Municipality, the Department of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs in Sharjah, the Public Services Department ? Ras Al Khaimah, Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, and National Geographic.
At the inauguration ceremony, Dr Al Zeyoudi said: "Striking the right balance between sustainable development and environment preservation is something that we learned from the UAE founding father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. And thanks to the vision of our wise leadership today, the UAE has become a successful regional and global model of environmental action."
He added: "The Ministry has organised the fair for 10 consecutive years to raise awareness of environmental responsibility and educate the young generation about eco-friendly practices and the importance of preserving our natural heritage."
In collaboration with its strategic partners, MOCCAE is introducing attendees to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, with a special focus on Goal 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production, Goal 13: Climate Action, Goal 14: Life below Water, and Goal 15: Life on Land. To achieve this objective, the Ministry designed multiple activities, such as workshops, discussions, and edutainment games, and also screens several awareness videos on the subject.
