ABU DHABI, 28th January 2019 (WAM) - Louvre Abu Dhabi will be hosting a lecture by Dr Mark Jonathan Beech, Head of Archaeology of Al Dhafra and Abu Dhabi, in the Historic Environment Department at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), titled "The Marawah Vase: Archaeological Discovery of the Arabian Gulf" on 30 January at 6pm in the museum Auditorium.
The lecture, which is part of the "Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia" exhibition, will explore the journey of a Marawah vase, which was unearthed in one of the oldest villages discovered in the United Arab Emirates.
Dr. Beech will uncover the history of the vase, which was originally made in Southern Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq) and later traded down the Arabian Gulf about 8,000 years ago. He will discuss life at that time in the region, explain the uses the vase would have had and how it arrived in this part of the world.
The Marawah Vase is the oldest complete vessel to be discovered in the UAE.
