AJMAN, 8th April, 2017 (WAM)-- Organised by the Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) and held under the patronage of Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of ATDD, Ride Ajman, has been an outstanding success with over 600 cyclists took part in the second annual cycling event, and 150 riders joined the charity ride.

Starting on the Ajman Corniche, cyclists took on either the newly expanded 104km route or the 52km National Development Race. Cyclists were cheered on by friends, family and Ajman residents as they sped off heading to Al Tallah Camel Racecourse and with AED184,000 in cash to be won, competition was fierce.

First place in 104km National category was awarded to Mohammed Almurawwi with a time of 2:15:36. Abudlaziz Nesser Alkhuwaytim won the male 19-49 category in the 104km Open Race with a time of 2:16:12 and Yvonne van Hattum from The Netherlands won the female 19-49 category in the 104km Open Race with a time of 2:45:28

Finishing first in the male category was Ahmad Almheiri finishing the race in 1:09:07 and in the female category Suhaila Bin Belaila came first with a time of 01:34:43, both taking home AED10,000.

Faisal Al Nuaimi, General-Manager of ATDD, said, "the ride Ajman event has been fantastic and we could not be more thrilled with the turn-out. Ride Ajman is now a key sporting event in the UAE calendar and it would not have been possible without the support from our logistic sponsors - the Ajman Police, Ajman Civil Defence and Group 32, our corporate sponsor - Ajman Bank, the official federation - the UAE cycle federation and of course our volunteers. We hope everyone had a great weekend and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year."

Mohamed Amiri, CEO, Ajman Bank commented, "We continue to show our support for events that position Ajman as a key sporting destination and Ride Ajman is testament to just that. We look forward to working with everyone for years to come as we grow this event further."

Many cyclists and supporters made use of weekend room rates provided by the six sponsoring hotels to ensure the entire family enjoyed a weekend in Ajman: Fairmont Ajman, Ajman Saray, Ramada Beach Hotel Ajman, Kempinski Hotel Ajman, The Oberoi Beach Resort Al Zorah and The Ajman Palace Hotel.

A 7km Charity Ride took place on the Ajman Corniche at 4.00pm, the event was open for all cycling levels and 150 cyclist participated in the ride. AED20, 300 were raised and went towards Al Jalila Foundation.
