AJMAN, 8th April, 2017 (WAM)-- Organised by the Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) and held under the patronage of Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of ATDD, Ride Ajman, has been an outstanding success with over 600 cyclists took part in the second annual cycling event, and 150 riders joined the charity ride.
Starting on the Ajman Corniche, cyclists took on either the newly expanded 104km route or the 52km National Development Race. Cyclists were cheered on by friends, family and Ajman residents as they sped off heading to Al Tallah Camel Racecourse and with AED184,000 in cash to be won, competition was fierce.
First place in 104km National category was awarded to Mohammed Almurawwi with a time of 2:15:36. Abudlaziz Nesser Alkhuwaytim won the male 19-49 category in the 104km Open Race with a time of 2:16:12 and Yvonne van Hattum from The Netherlands won the female 19-49 category in the 104km Open Race with a time of 2:45:28
Marc Adam won the senior category in the 104km Open Race with a time of 2:19.50 and Dee Boys won the senior female category with a time of 2:54:55. The junior title for the 104km was awarded to Ahmed Nazzer, aged 16 as he finished the race in 2:19:50. All winners took home a staggering AED10,000 each in prize money and further prizes were awarded for second and third place in the same categories.
New to 2017, the 52km National Development Race was launched to encourage cycling among UAE nationals and saw over 50 cyclists take part. Finishing first in the male category was Ahmad Almheiri finishing the race in 1:09:07 and in the female category Suhaila Bin Belaila came first with a time of 01:34:43, both taking home AED10,000.

Many cyclists and supporters made use of weekend room rates provided by the six sponsoring hotels to ensure the entire family enjoyed a weekend in Ajman: Fairmont Ajman, Ajman Saray, Ramada Beach Hotel Ajman, Kempinski Hotel Ajman, The Oberoi Beach Resort Al Zorah and The Ajman Palace Hotel.
A 7km Charity Ride took place on the Ajman Corniche at 4.00pm, the event was open for all cycling levels and 150 cyclist participated in the ride. AED20, 300 were raised and went towards Al Jalila Foundation.
