ABU DHABI, 15th April, 2017 (WAM)--Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and Union National Bank (UNB) Chairman, announced that the Bank has pledged AED30 million to Sandooq Al Watan, 'Nation's Fund,' in support of its noble objectives.
The move follows President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving, which has marked a new milestone in a gracious journey initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and continued by current wise leadership to build the country on strong pillars of security, family bonds, and social solidarity, as well as on lofty moral values and strong sense of patriotism.
Sheikh Nahyan, said, "The Year of Giving initiative, which is being closely nurtured by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, reflects the benevolent spirit of the UAE leaders, who spare no effort in enabling the UAE citizens to lead a prosperous life. Those leaders are keen to engage all segments of society in the nation-building process and to ensure that all successive generations cherish our noble traditional values."
He urged all corporate entities and individuals to demonstrate their support for the objectives of the Year of Giving.
Meanwhile, Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, lauded UNB’s support, describing it as an embodiment of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the community, and its leading role in supporting the economic development of the UAE. "The Union National Bank is one of the leading financial enterprises in the UAE and has been instrumental to the development of the national workforce, empowering them to take initiative in the financial domain," he said.
Lt. Gen. Tamim added, "On behalf of ‘Sandooq Al Watan’, we express our deepest gratitude to Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan for his generous support, which will ultimately help us build a better future for our coming generations. This contribution reflects the commitment of public and private institutions to supporting the vision of the UAE’s wise leaders, who have urged us to invest in people to guarantee progress and prosperity for our nation."
The donation was announced at meeting held at the Bank’s Head Office in Abu Dhabi, between the Union National Bank’s Board of Directors headed by Sheikh Nahyan and the Board of Directors of Sandooq Al Watan, headed by Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim. The Bank’s gesture was part of its social responsibilities and in recognition of the role of Sandooq Al Watan in embedding the values of contribution to national agendas.
Sandooq Al Watan seeks to involve the business community and private sector in development efforts and to encourage the public to donate. The initiative reflects the deep connection between various segments of UAE society, and adheres to the directives of the country’s leadership, which calls for spreading equality and providing a good life for the people of the UAE, both present and future.
Sandooq Al Watan allows all citizens and local companies to donate and volunteer to help achieve the fund’s goals and programmes.
