Hyeonseonggain & Ariart Company of Miin Jee Young returned home after successfully participating in the Melnicky Vrkoc International folk festival which was held in Melnicky, Czech Republic from June 6 to 13,2017. Members of Korean art delegation
represented Korea at the festival showcasing the beauty of Hanbok and Korean traditional music drawing enthusiastic applause from the Czech audience.
The successful participation in the gala event was made possible through good office of
Jana Chalopkova, who returned to her home earlier this year after working at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Korea.
Jana Chaloupkova PhD is now working at the Department of Middle East and North African Affairs at the Foreign Ministry of Czech Republic.
Jana takes pictures of Korean traditional art team when the Korean traditional art arrives at Prague Airport. After a while, he broke a busy schedule and join the team for two days.
Jana kindly looked after Korean traditional art team members during their stay in Czech taking pictures, introducing Korean art and culture, thus strengthening friendship between Korea and the Czech Republic.
This year, nine teams from five countries participated in the concert hall, including Korea, Canada, and Slovakia.
During the concert, Korean performers introduced traditional Korean arts such as Janggo dance and Korea's beautiful music.
On behalf of the Korean artists, director of Ariart Company Min ji-yeong presented traditional Korean ginseng extract as gifts to Ctirad Mikes Mayor,Town of Melnik . In return, Mayor gave Min ji-yeong a photo album and CDs as gift to consolidate the friendship between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Czech Republic, Hyejung Hur, Second Secretary and Consul also joined the event to encourages Korean traditional art team members.
Ms Min Jee-young won the prize of Korea Best Brand in the educational and cultural area for the year 2016 for his vigorous activities promoting Hanbok and traditional Korean royal family music and dance at major diplomatic functions in Korea.
This year Czech Republic celebrates the 29th edition of the festival, but in fact the festival and its idea are older than that.
The first tendency to create an occasion for meeting people and culture from different cities of the Czech Republic, but also other countries was in 1978. This was the first muster. Other attempts followed in different years later on.
The real tradition was re-established in 1998 and starting from 2000 the festival is organized yearly at the beginning of June by the organization founded for this purpose.
So far 29th edition of the festival welcome tens of groups and thousands of performers from all over the world including Czech Republic, Slovakia, South Korea and Canada. This festival is one of the few that are organized in the region of central Bohemia.
Jan 'Ulovec who had led this event for 5 years in a row did again this year with humorous and skillful guide for the whole citizens.

“We displayed Korean traditional dress, art, and many participants cheered us for beauty of our traditional dress and art," Ms Min said pointing out that they spared no applauds during the all performances.
The participation of Korean traditional art group on this event was made possible thanks to Associate ambassador Jana Chalopkova who served in Czech Embassy in Korea until January 2017. While she was in Korea, she had a special interest in Korean culture and had a closer relationship with Ms. Min Jee Young director of Ariart Company. It was a beginning of the story on how she invited Korean cultural and art team to visit Czech Republic for the event.
The former associate ambassador Jana spent her precious time with visiting members of Korean art group after their arrival at Praha airport and their returning home.
All in all, she helped Korean team for 2 full days showing off her closer relationship with MS Min and her art group members. Vrkoc International Folk Festival is one of three International Festivals that many people of Czech love. It is the 9th festival this year. This year Korean team, Canadian team, 2 Slovakian teams, 9 teams in total participated. They performed unique and diverse performing art activities in front of the city hall of Melnicky which was a main stage in addition to other performing activities at city parks and streets.
Korean art group didn’t miss in raising the Korean flags at all performances.
"When we performed fan dances, samulnoli, beautiful dances showing gracious lines of motion, Czech audience appeared to have been amazed giving big applauds," said.
Korean traditional music and fan dance in particular seemed to have immense impression on mind of Czech children, said MS Min.
Min Jee Young director who led this performance group presented special Korean Red Ginseng products (Hong-Sam) to the mayor of Melnicky, Ctriad Mikes.
In return, he gave an album, CD and advertisements of Melnicky for all V.I.P. participants.
"He also opened his office that is kept secret and showed Praha castle statue made of glass. He treated us as best as he could.
Ms. Min Jee Young usually wears Korean traditional dress on many Korean residing embassies' national holiday receptions in domestic and performs Korean traditional dance performance for a long time. So she is well known as a citizen foreign communication ambassador and now she expended her range through this Czech performance to acknowledge Korea better and wider.
In the meantime, Hyejung Hur, consul from Korean Embassy in Czech Republic, took care of visiting Korean art group members and cheered up during their stay in Czech Republic
Noteworthy was fascinating dae-geum play in the garden of woods in Czech Republic by Ms Park Jung-sook who were sufficient to enthrall and inspire hearts of Europeans.
