SHARJAH, July 17, 2017 -- For the first time in its history, Sharjah hosted the French National Day celebrations organised by the French Consulate on the Flag Island, one of the Emirate's top tourist destinations and landmarks, in coordination with Sharjah Department of Government Relations and Maraya Art Centre of Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority).
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Executive Chairman of Sharjah Department of Government Relations, HE Majdi Abed, French Consul-General, and Sheikh Majed bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of Sharjah Department of Government Relations, HE Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, and the diplomatic community representing GCC, Arab, Islamic and foreign countries accredited to the UAE.
The ceremony opened with Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi’s speech in French. Welcoming the attendees, who included several consuls, he expressed his pleasure at the selection of Sharjah to celebrate the French National Day, wishing the French people further progress and prosperity.
The Executive Chairman of Sharjah Department of Government Relations affirmed Sharjah’s keenness, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to strengthen relations with France towards higher levels of cooperation and joint action.
Interestingly, HE Majdi Abed, French Consul General, spoke in Arabic on the occasion, lauding Sharjah’s outstanding progress and status achieved thanks to the vision of its Ruler in building bridges of cultural communication between the Arab and Western worlds at various levels.
The French Consul General conveyed the keenness of French President Emmanuel Macaron in strengthening bonds with the Northern Emirates across various spheres.
Sharjah’s hosting of the French National Day celebrations comes as part of the two sides’ efforts to promote greater communication and cooperation between them. The Sharjah Department of Government Relations has seen numerous meetings between HE Majdi Abed and Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, whose recent visit to France has reinvigorated the strong ties existing between Sharjah and France.
